Our main activity is a monthly reading group (via ZOOM), as well as other ad-hoc events, field trips, talks, etc.
COMPOSTING reading groups and events are open to bodies of all genders, professions, and walks of life — academics, postgrad students, undergrads, artists, poets, activists, grandmas, (usually) multispecies companions… We strive to be an inclusive intersectional feminist space, and together we are figuring out what that means, in practice.

COMPOSTING began as an in-person reading group based in Sydney, NSW, on unceded Gadidal land, in August 2015. Since then, it has continued in this form, but grown and shifted too: we have organised field trips, conference panels, picnics, potluck dinners, and workshops. When Jennifer moved to Armidale in 2018, she also began to host a second monthly reading group via ZOOM. The two reading groups amalgamated halfway through 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges it posed to in-person meetings. In January 2021, Astrida will be leaving Sydney, and taking a new job at the UBC Okanagan from March 2021. to This means that in 2021, COMPOSTING will look a bit different – but we still remain committed to turning over the compost! So stay tuned!
